Golden Eagles –
Wednesday & Thursday gave our TEAM a chance to show our
region what we all knew our TEAM could do. Well done to all of you. As coaches
we are so proud of all of you for stepping up at the right time to help your
TEAM out. It was a very selfless balanced TEAM effort and it will take that
same selfless balanced TEAM effort to bring home the big goal of a state
championship. Let us stay focused and see this one all the way to the end. Yes
that means you will need to go one more week giving up things that “the normal
teenager” doesn’t give up, but you will gain something that “the normal
teenager” will never get. See it through.
There were so many highlights from the region championship
meet we will be unable to mention all of them, but some of them were: Skyler
Procaro setting the Overall State Record in the Javelin with a throw of 198’ 10”!!!
Joining Skyler in the Javelin was Jake Varney taking 2nd in the event
with a PR throw as well. Finally to top off the Javelin event Jacob Abbot qualified
for state and placed 5th in the event, with a PR throw as well. That
gives our TEAM 3 of the top 10 javelin throwers in 4A. Skyler was also the
region champion in the discus along with all of our throwers doing an amazing
job in the discus. Zach Decker got into the scoring action as well in the
discus placing 7th and 3rd in the Shot Put. Our jumpers didn’t
want to be left out of the scoring party and didn’t want to miss out on going
to state. We had 3 high jumpers qualify for state at this meet led by Chase
Klungle, Spencer Asay, and Sammy Cooper all clearing 6’ and placing in the top
6 in our region. In the long jump Spencer Asay & Cameron Carson both scored
and qualified for state in the long jump. Our distance crew also got into the
scoring action, running very smart races and passing opponents at the right
times. Isaac Faux & Paxton Patey went 2 & 3 in the 1600 and 3 & 4 in
the 3200. Isaac also placed 2nd in the open 800, just getting edged
out at the line. Paxton anchored our Medley relay team to a 2nd
place finish as well. Cameron Carson led the sprinters by winning the region
title in the 100 meters in a time of 10.85 and helped anchor our 4x100 relay
team to a region title as well. Sprinters Dallin Nelson, Devin Barker, Steele
Rassmusen, and Kevin Muribrook all helped all of our relays to finish in the top
3. Kevin Muirbrook placed 3rd in the open 400m and qualified for
state in this event Devin Barker placed 8th in this event. Our
hurdle duo of Nate Priest & Nate Strong both qualified for state in the 110’s
placing 4th & 5th. Nate Priest also helped out in scoring points
in the 300 hurdles placing 6th. Nicole Habel placed 3rd
in the shot put and qualified for state in this event. Jensen
Williams was the region champion in the 400meters and placed 2nd in the
200meters and anchored our 4x100 and 4x400 relays to top 3 finishes. Megan
Elmont placed 2nd in the Long Jump and 6th in the 400 and
helped out on our relays. Brette Bennett scored for us in the high jump placing
3rd. Christine Heyn placed 6th in the 100meters and
helped our 4x100 & medley relays. Tarin Strosser placed 5th in the
100meters qualifying for state in this event and also placed 4th in
the Javelin and qualified for state in this event as well. Regan Pond placed 6th
in the 3200m and 8th in the 1600m scoring points for our team.
Lindsay Schuring and Sarah Hash both earned points for our team in the 800m
placing 7th & 8th and were also both members of our
4x400 relay. Other relay members were Tessa Weight, Bobbe Graham, and Brenda
Quintana who all helped our relays to top 3 finishes. Thank you to all of you
and to our whole TEAM. Well done at region. Congrats Region VIII Champions!!!
