The "Y" & Week 4 Practice Notes

Golden Eagles --

Thanks to all of you who ran/ hiked the "Y" on Thursday Night. It was a lot of fun and a great place to introduce our theme for the season of "Rise Above". We as Coaches hope that you will "Rise Above" the challenges, the expectations, the competition, and others as you pursue your goals and our TEAM goals this season. We hope that you yourselves will take this theme and apply it to yourselves and "Rise Above"!

Now a few things to make mention, congrats to Spencer Hanson for our school record "Y" run of 12:30. Also congrats to Kevin Muirbook and Nate Vance for breaking last years record (15:30) this year by both finishing the run in under 15:00. Also congrats to Nate Strong for running the whole trail as well. Thanks to all of you who made it to the top. Hope you enjoyed the view and saw the eagles fly up there above it all. Thanks to all of you for a fun time at the creamery afterwords.  YUM! I am amazed at the boys who ate that whole half gallon of ice cream. Thursday night was a lot of fun! Thanks to all of you for singing all the way back to the school, it made the trip fun! We also wanted to thank those who helped set up our movie screen at MMHS and helped provide our movie and sound system. That was a lot of fun to have a TEAM movie night at MMHS. Thanks to all those who helped and stayed and watched. Hope the high jump pads were comfortable enough for ya. We will do another movie night later this summer in August. If you have suggestions on what movie to watch let your captains know.

Now a quick note, we will be holding a Parent Meeting on Tuesday July 27th at 6:00pm at MMHS in the athletic commons. This is a very important meeting to discuss the upcoming season, upcoming varsity and jv camps, give out paperwork, discuss the cost of the season, and have our parent vote. Please do everything you can to try to have at least one parent at this meeting. Thanks.

Now practice notes this week. Remember to keep logging your mileage. Keep in mind what the target goal of mileage for the week is and work towards that goal. This week we have a unique opportunity to see how we are progressing this summer. On Saturday the 24th there are two road races that we strongly encourage you to participate in one of. The Speedy Spaniard 10K in Spanish Fork or the Mapleton City 5K. These two races are a great chance to see how you are progressing and a good way to start off your 24th of July celebrations. We will talk more about these races this week in practice. Again we encourage you to run one of the two races. Also for this Thursday Nights TEAM run we will meet at MMHS at 6:00pm and will travel down to Utah Lake State Park for a run along the trail. (And feed the ducks if your name is KJ!) This is a fun, easy, flat, run  Afterwords we will go and get a bite to eat or get snow cones. We will discuss the details at practice. Remember that the weight room is open for your use as well.

Happy Running,
-- The Coaches

P.S.
I have also been asked if I would do a short list for those who are interested...This is what I know so far. If I have missed any other track or cross country alumni please let me know. You can contact these fine young men to find out when their service begins. Good luck over the next 2 years :)
