The "Y" & Week 4 Practice Notes

Golden Eagles --

Thanks to all of you who ran/ hiked the "Y" on Thursday Night. It was a lot of fun and a great place to introduce our theme for the season of "Rise Above". We as Coaches hope that you will "Rise Above" the challenges, the expectations, the competition, and others as you pursue your goals and our TEAM goals this season. We hope that you yourselves will take this theme and apply it to yourselves and "Rise Above"!

Now a few things to make mention, congrats to Spencer Hanson for our school record "Y" run of 12:30. Also congrats to Kevin Muirbook and Nate Vance for breaking last years record (15:30) this year by both finishing the run in under 15:00. Also congrats to Nate Strong for running the whole trail as well. Thanks to all of you who made it to the top. Hope you enjoyed the view and saw the eagles fly up there above it all. Thanks to all of you for a fun time at the creamery afterwords.  YUM! I am amazed at the boys who ate that whole half gallon of ice cream. Thursday night was a lot of fun! Thanks to all of you for singing all the way back to the school, it made the trip fun! We also wanted to thank those who helped set up our movie screen at MMHS and helped provide our movie and sound system. That was a lot of fun to have a TEAM movie night at MMHS. Thanks to all those who helped and stayed and watched. Hope the high jump pads were comfortable enough for ya. We will do another movie night later this summer in August. If you have suggestions on what movie to watch let your captains know.

Now a quick note, we will be holding a Parent Meeting on Tuesday July 27th at 6:00pm at MMHS in the athletic commons. This is a very important meeting to discuss the upcoming season, upcoming varsity and jv camps, give out paperwork, discuss the cost of the season, and have our parent vote. Please do everything you can to try to have at least one parent at this meeting. Thanks.

Now practice notes this week. Remember to keep logging your mileage. Keep in mind what the target goal of mileage for the week is and work towards that goal. This week we have a unique opportunity to see how we are progressing this summer. On Saturday the 24th there are two road races that we strongly encourage you to participate in one of. The Speedy Spaniard 10K in Spanish Fork or the Mapleton City 5K. These two races are a great chance to see how you are progressing and a good way to start off your 24th of July celebrations. We will talk more about these races this week in practice. Again we encourage you to run one of the two races. Also for this Thursday Nights TEAM run we will meet at MMHS at 6:00pm and will travel down to Utah Lake State Park for a run along the trail. (And feed the ducks if your name is KJ!) This is a fun, easy, flat, run  Afterwords we will go and get a bite to eat or get snow cones. We will discuss the details at practice. Remember that the weight room is open for your use as well.

Happy Running,
-- The Coaches

Week 3 Practice Notes

Golden Eagles --

Just a quick thank you to all of you who came on our Thursday night TEAM run. It was great to have so many of you again. The trail was a lot of fun as was the food afterwords. Thanks to those who paused to look at the falls. Thanks also to the friends of the program that came along for the run or just rode their bike or long boards. To Jensen and Bridget goes a big time high five for getting into the falls. Sorry we couldn't get you all into the pictures, but below are a few of them.

This week for practice remember that you need to start logging your mileage. Keep track of what you are doing week for week. IF you have questions about this then feel free to ask the coaches. 7:00am practice again Monday -- Wednesday and then our Thursday Night TEAM run. Also a reminder that  the weight room is open every day this week and we encourage you all to get in to the weight room at least 3 times a week. If you have questions about what program you should be doing in the weight room just ask one of the coaches or one of the TEAM captains. We know that the hard work in the weight room and the mileage you are putting into this summer will pay off in the fall when the time to race comes.
Again another push to get your friends to come and run with us. Cross Country is a lot of fun and anyone can do it. Please never think that it is too late to join our team. We love to see new faces at practice.

This Thursday night TEAM run is going to the the "Y". For this run/hike we will meet at MMHS at 6:00pm. If it is easier for you we will meet you at the "Y" trail head at 6:30pm. This is a challenging run and a fun hike. It is great to see the view from on the Mountain up where the Eagles Fly! We encourage all to come along for this great TEAM night. We will be going to the BYU Creamery afterwords for ice cream so make sure you bring some spending cash for that. Also we have been getting a lot of you asking if we are going to do a movie night again like we did last year? The answer to that one is yes. We just haven't decided if we will do it this Thursday night or next. But rest assured we will have a TEAM movie night soon for all TEAM members and other friends of the program. We will post it and announce it at practice when it will be.

Happy Running!

Cross Country Week 2 Practice Notes

Golden Eagles --
What a great first week. It was so amazing to see so many of you out to practice. You all continue to impress us as coaches with your dedication to our TEAM and to our program. Thank You! Thank you to all of you who have started this season with us. It is never to late to join our TEAM. We want all of you to come and be a part of our TEAM. Just like so many things in life cross country is more fun when your friends are involved. Thank you to all of you who came to our first Thursday night TEAM run. We had more people on that night run than we did all last season. Thank you for helping our TEAM soar to new heights. It was a great run, good food, and fun ultimate Frisbee play. Thanks to all who made this possible and to our football friends and "friends of the program" who helped finish off the food. It was a great way to start the season.

Now this week because of the 4th of July Holiday we will not be having formal practice on Monday July 5th. (Good luck to all of you who are running in the freedom run) However we will have practice as normal for the rest of the week 7:00am at track. The weight room is also open on these days and thanks to all of you who have been lifting it will payoff. If you haven't been in the weight room we encourage you to start now.

This weeks Thursday night TEAM run will be one of two choices that we will decide on at practice. (It will be posted on the blog when decided) Choice #1 is the "Y" mountain run/ hike followed by a trip to the BYU Creamery. (Yummm Lavells Vanilla Ice Cream) Or choice #2 is the Provo Canyon River Trail (Bridal Vail Falls) Run followed by our invasion of Bajio & The Rocky Mtn. Chocolate Factory. If we choose #2 than we will meet at MMHS at 5:30pm to carpool and caravan, if we choose #1 than we will meet at MMHS at 6:00pm to carpool and caravan.

Thank you and Happy Running!
