Distance Challange Results & Indoor Championship Info

Golden Eagles –
Thank you to all of you who helped with “El-Chepo” it was a lot of fun. Thank you for helping with this fundraiser. It really makes our jobs as coaches so much easier when we have the help like we had yesterday. On Friday night we participated in a new meet the Utah Distance Challenge at the Olympic Oval. This was a fun meet and a great format. It was great to see so many of you participate in this meet, have fun, work hard, and set some PR’s for this season. Thanks also to those who came and offered their support at this meet. Brigette Harris ran a personal best 6:13 in the mile. Jensen Williams placed 5th in the 400, Bobbe Graham jumped in and ran her first 400 of the season, Christine Heyn also joined them in the 400. Christine was also one of the many who decided to jump into a race for a workout running the 800 meters along with Brigette Harris and Jensen Williams (all three placed in our top 10 for indoor). The Sunglasses ladies returned to set our indoor record in the 3200 meters. Thanks to all the ladies who ran in this meet and took advantage of this training opportunity.

On the boys side several of you also took advantage of this training opportunity running in a couple of races for workout part of it. Isaac Faux and Paxton Patey set new PR’s in both the mile. Moving to our #2 & #3 all time Indoor marks with great times of 4:36 & 4:41 respectively. Nate Vance, Jonah Hadlock, and Josh Watson all made their indoor debuts in the mile. Isaac and Paxton joined Lance Merrell in the 800 meters all setting our top 3 indoor all time marks. With Isaac running a 2:06, Lance 2:08, Paxton 2:09 respectively. Jonah Hadlock (2:15), Kevin Murirbook (2:18), and Nate Vance (2:22) rounded out our 800 meter crew. Kevin Muirbook ran his best mark of the season in the 400 meters (55.19) moving up to our #3 indoor mark with that race. Isaac, Paxton, Josh, & Nate all ran for the workout mileage in the 3200 meters all placing in our top 5 indoor marks. Thank you boys, thank you. It was good to see more of you taking advantage of the opportunities that these indoor meets provide. Full meet results can be found at http://davisindoortrack.blogspot.com

Weber State Results & Utah Distance Challange Info & Track Fundraiser info

Golden Eagles –

This weekend gave an opportunity for some of you to compete at the Weber State University development meet. We want to thank all of you who took advantage of this meet this weekend. Some of the highlights were; Lance Merrell winning the High Jump with a great jump of 6 feet. Zach Decker placed 5th in the Shot Put with a throw of 45 feet. Tanner Blanthorne also took advantage of this meet and threw further than he did all last season. Jake Harding set an all time personal best in the 800 meters and ran a good mile. Finally on the boys side our new face freshman Spencer Asay placed 9th in the Long jump with a jump of 18’ 2” really good for only being to practice for two days. On the girls side Tiffany Gomm placed 7th in the 55 hurdles with a time of 9.64. Jensen Williams returned to the 400 with a 5th place finish with a great time of 63.31 (#1 MMHS indoor mark). Christine Heyn & Katie Bennett also compete in the 400 both running very good races. In the 55 meters Tessa Weight (8.07), Tiffany Gomm (8.29), and Jensen Williams (7.92) all ran well. It was great to see Tessa and Christine both attack the 200. Bridget Harris ran well in her mile after having to sit around all day. For the second meet in a row we raced a 4x400 meter relay TEAM on the girls side and placed 5th. It was a good meet for our TEAM and it was fun to see you all compete and get the first one out of the way. It was also slightly fun to see the brave one who took on the dare of the massive milk shake & food after words. The sing-off on the ride home was entertaining to say the least. Thank you to all of you who went to this meet.

Practice this week will run as it has been for the past three weeks. Monday all event groups will meet at 3:00pm in the commons. We are looking forward to seeing all of you. Now this week brings us a unique opportunity This Friday night is the Utah Distance Challenge at the Olympic Ice Oval. The cost is $5 and you can run in as many of the four events that you wish. Details are attached at the end of this post. The events run at this meet are all distance related with one fun 400 added in there. The 400, 800, 1600, and 3200 will all be ran at this meet. This is a great chance to compete on a non-200 meter track (oversized 422m). We would encourage all who can make it to this to do so. We would also encourage all the sprinters who can to go and run the 400 meters at this meet. We will meet at MMHS at 2:50pm to carpool & caravan on up to this meet for all who are going.

Also this week this Saturday is our fundraiser dance. We need everyone to be at the dance and we need everyone to show up on Saturday morning at 10:00am in the cafeteria to decorate. We need everyone on the TEAM to help with this. All of the money made from this dance goes right back to you all in our program. So please get your dates and come to this dance & bring your friends as well.

Also a heads up for ya, we are trying to finalize our Simplot trip plans and need to know how many of you would be interested in going to this national indoor meet. The cost would be between $125 - $150 per person it would cover transportation, lodging, and meet registration. If you are interested in attending this meet please talk with Coach Wyatt at school or send him a text letting him know by this Wednesday Jan 26th that would be great. Thanks.

Final thing for ya here is a copy of the quote shared in practice the other day. “A person who doubts himself is like a man who would enlist in the ranks of his enemies and bear arms against himself.” Just remember never to doubt yourself or your abilities. Keep working hard, it will pay off.

Thanks,

--The Coaches

Golden Eagles –
This past weekend gave us a good opportunity as a TEAM to start this season. It was great to see those of you who came and participated in this meet. We as coaches were very pleased with our performances in this meet. It was good to see so many of our new athletes come and try new events and set good marks for the start of the new season. It was also good to see some of our veteran athletes set good marks for this early in the season.  Some of the highlights from the meet for our TEAM were; Zach Decker setting the school record in the shot put with a 4th place finish throw of 47’ 6”(#1 MMHS All Time & #1 MMHS indoor mark) .  Spencer Hanson taking 4th in the mile with a time of 4:31.96 and Isaac Faux 8th in the mile with a time of 4:39.07(#2 MMHS all time & #2 MMHS indoor mark), and Lance Merrell ran a time of 4:58 (#4 MMHS indoor mark). Lance also helped our TEAM in the High Jump with a jump of 5’ 8” (#2 MMHS indoor mark) & tried his hand at the Long Jump jumping better each time finishing with a jump of 17’ 5.75”(#2 MMHS indoor mark). Eddie Prothero & Tucker Austin both improved on their last season marks in the 60meter hurdles running times of 9.73 & 10.19 respectively (#2 & #3 MMHS indoor mark). Tucker Austin, Kevin Muirbrook, & Riley Brown all ran the 400 meters. Riley also was our solo runner in the 60 meters with a time of 8.13. Kevin Muirbook was our solo runner in the 200 meters. Our boys 4x1 lap team fought hard and placed 3rd. TEAM members were Kevin Muirbrook, Tucker Austin, Isaac Faux, and Eddie Prothero.
On the girls side, Brette Bennett led the way for us placing 8th in the High Jump with a jump of 4’ 10.25” (#1 MMHS indoor mark) Brette also placed 8th in the 800 meters with a great race posting a time of 2:36.32 (#2 MMHS indoor mark). The rest of our girls TEAM all competed well in their first ever indoor meet, or first ever high school track meet. It was great to see Sophomore Tiffany Gomm take her shot at the 60meter hurdles with a time of 10.59 (#1 MMHS indoor mark) & she also ran the 60 meters with at time of 8.99 (#5 MMHS indoor mark). Sophomore Katie Bennett & Freshman Christine Heyn both ran their first 400 meters of the season with times of 1:10 & 1:08 (#5 & #3 MMHS indoor mark) Christine was joined by Freshman Megan Elmont in running the 200 meters with times of 30.01 & 28.90 (#4 &#5 MMHS indoor marks) In the girls mile Freshman Brigette Harris & Junior Alyssa Lewis represented our TEAM with good marks for them of 6:18 & 7:14 (#3 & #7 MMHS indoor mark). Megan Elmont also just missed out on the finals in the long jump with a great jump of 14’ 7.25” (#2 MMHS indoor mark & #4 MMHS all time) Finally our girls TEAM ran a 4x1lap placing 8th. Relay TEAM members were Megan Elmont, Katie Bennett, Christine Heyn, and Tiffany Gomm setting our #1 all time mark in this event.
The BYU meet gave us a good starting point, knowing that we have only had two weeks of practice before this meet we are pleased with this meet.  Thank you to those of you who took on the challenge and ran events that you didn’t want to. Thank you for all of you for giving up your Friday night and your Saturday to compete in this meet. Thank you. Know that the hard work you put into practice will pay off and the marks you set this weekend will only improve from this point. Now TEAM we hope you all will take full advantage of these indoor meets. This is one of the only times you will get a chance to run the full distances on a track. It is also a chance for you to cash in your hard work. Our next meet is this Friday & Saturday at Weber State University. Details are $3 for first event & $2 for each additional event. The meet schedule is attached below. Please let Coach Wyatt know if you are planning to attend this meet before end of practice Thursday.
Now this week we don’t have practice on Monday because of the holiday so enjoy that day with your families. Practice will run as it has for the last two weeks. If you have any questions about practice places and times please ask any one of the coaches. There is also a track & field Fundraiser coming up on the 29th. We are sponsoring the El-Chepo Dance & the proceeds of this dance go to our TEAM. There are two things you can do to help with this fundraiser. #1 Ask your dates and go to this dance and get all of your friends to go as well! The more people who go to this dance the more money our TEAM will get! All of these funds go directly to you. #2 on Saturday morning the 29th we will need you all to help out with the set up & clean up of this dance.  More info will follow about this dance.

 Thanks,

Indoor Week 2 notes & BYU Indoor Invite info

Golden Eagles –
This past weekend gave us the chance to learn at the USU track & field clinics. For the athletes that attended it provided a great opportunity to learn, relearn, and perfect their skills for this season.  There were several new things that I learned at this clinic. There were also many that were good reminders.  There were two main things that stood out to me from all of the clinics, it doesn’t matter if you do distance, throws, jumps, hurdles, or sprints you should all be using the weight room & working on your core. We just wanted to put another push for all of you to get into the weight room, use the time at this point of your season to work on building your strength in the weight room.  There were other things that stood out at the clinic that we will bring up in practice.
Now this upcoming weekend (Friday January 14 & Saturday 15) is the BYU indoor invitational. This is the first meet of the year and it gives you a chance to set a mark for the season. To see where you are at and to see the work that you have been putting in pay off. We encourage everyone on our TEAM to compete in this meet. Now this meet is a pre-register meet. During practice you will need to sign up for whatever events you want to compete in, so the coaches can register you all by Friday at Noon.  The cost is $4 dollars per event that you register for. You are allowed to compete in up to four (4) events. We will discuss this a little at practice on Monday. Further information and a schedule of events are attached below. There will also be meet information found in Coach Wyatt’s classroom.  Also know that Admission for spectators is $2 for adults and non-participating students each day.

Indoor Track Notes

Golden Eagles -
It was great to see so many of you all today. It is just wonderful to start the season. Let us keep spreading the word and try to get our friends out to practice. The more the better. Our TEAM needs you.  Just a few quick items of note for all of you.
#1 There is no official practice tomorrow January 4th. The next practice time will be Thursday January 6th.
#2 Distance practice will take place Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from now on until the end of the indoor season.(however not this Wednesday, sorry) This change works better for our distance coaches. Coach Barker will be in the weight room on Wednesdays right after school for those who need to get their lifting done.
#3 Sprints, Jumps, & Throws your practices will run Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday from now until the end of the indoor season. Exceptions are the days when there are home basketball games like tomorrow.
Thanks for your understanding of these schedule changes.

#4 This weekend is the Utah State Track & Field clinics. For those of you who are interested in going please let Coach Wyatt know by the end of day on the 5th of January. Details about these clinics can be found in Coach Wyatt's classroom.  If you have any questions on these clinics just ask .
#5 With the end of the term coming up just a reminder for all that you will need to keep your grades up. 2.0 GPA with no more than 1 F. These grades must be maintained in order to compete in the outdoor track & field season. Also just make sure you are attending your classes and not showing up on the NC list.
#6 Last reminder to all of you to get into the weight room. This will really help our TEAM out and it will help you.

Thank you to all of you for coming and working with us. We know that you all have many choices with your time and we thank you for choosing our TEAM. If you all have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks,

- The Coaches
