Weber State Results & Utah Distance Challange Info & Track Fundraiser info

Golden Eagles –

This weekend gave an opportunity for some of you to compete at the Weber State University development meet. We want to thank all of you who took advantage of this meet this weekend. Some of the highlights were; Lance Merrell winning the High Jump with a great jump of 6 feet. Zach Decker placed 5th in the Shot Put with a throw of 45 feet. Tanner Blanthorne also took advantage of this meet and threw further than he did all last season. Jake Harding set an all time personal best in the 800 meters and ran a good mile. Finally on the boys side our new face freshman Spencer Asay placed 9th in the Long jump with a jump of 18’ 2” really good for only being to practice for two days. On the girls side Tiffany Gomm placed 7th in the 55 hurdles with a time of 9.64. Jensen Williams returned to the 400 with a 5th place finish with a great time of 63.31 (#1 MMHS indoor mark). Christine Heyn & Katie Bennett also compete in the 400 both running very good races. In the 55 meters Tessa Weight (8.07), Tiffany Gomm (8.29), and Jensen Williams (7.92) all ran well. It was great to see Tessa and Christine both attack the 200. Bridget Harris ran well in her mile after having to sit around all day. For the second meet in a row we raced a 4x400 meter relay TEAM on the girls side and placed 5th. It was a good meet for our TEAM and it was fun to see you all compete and get the first one out of the way. It was also slightly fun to see the brave one who took on the dare of the massive milk shake & food after words. The sing-off on the ride home was entertaining to say the least. Thank you to all of you who went to this meet.

Practice this week will run as it has been for the past three weeks. Monday all event groups will meet at 3:00pm in the commons. We are looking forward to seeing all of you. Now this week brings us a unique opportunity This Friday night is the Utah Distance Challenge at the Olympic Ice Oval. The cost is $5 and you can run in as many of the four events that you wish. Details are attached at the end of this post. The events run at this meet are all distance related with one fun 400 added in there. The 400, 800, 1600, and 3200 will all be ran at this meet. This is a great chance to compete on a non-200 meter track (oversized 422m). We would encourage all who can make it to this to do so. We would also encourage all the sprinters who can to go and run the 400 meters at this meet. We will meet at MMHS at 2:50pm to carpool & caravan on up to this meet for all who are going.

Also this week this Saturday is our fundraiser dance. We need everyone to be at the dance and we need everyone to show up on Saturday morning at 10:00am in the cafeteria to decorate. We need everyone on the TEAM to help with this. All of the money made from this dance goes right back to you all in our program. So please get your dates and come to this dance & bring your friends as well.

Also a heads up for ya, we are trying to finalize our Simplot trip plans and need to know how many of you would be interested in going to this national indoor meet. The cost would be between $125 - $150 per person it would cover transportation, lodging, and meet registration. If you are interested in attending this meet please talk with Coach Wyatt at school or send him a text letting him know by this Wednesday Jan 26th that would be great. Thanks.

Final thing for ya here is a copy of the quote shared in practice the other day. “A person who doubts himself is like a man who would enlist in the ranks of his enemies and bear arms against himself.” Just remember never to doubt yourself or your abilities. Keep working hard, it will pay off.

Thanks,

--The Coaches
