Footlocker Results & Indoor track info

Golden Eagles –

“Coach…Running IS fun!” was proven more so this past week than at any other time this season. Our TEAM finished our annual expedition to the Footlocker Western Regional’s in Walnut California. The weather was perfect, the beach amazing, and Disneyland was so much fun. Also the races gave us a final chance to see some of you race a cross country race & it gave others of you a chance to build for next season. The races gave all of us a chance to have fun and enjoy the fun of running. As you progress on in your running careers never lose sight of the fact that running IS fun and can be as fun as you make it.

Highlights of this meet included Freshmen Daniel Quintana and Maddie Ball earning one of those big footlocker medals. Both ran sound races. Sophomores Regan Pond, Brenda Quintana, and Brigett Harris all medaled in their races. Brenda reminded all of us that if you really want something and are willing to WORK for it and not be distracted you CAN get it. Junior Rachel Warnick ran an incredible race bouncing back from her earlier in the season disappointment to finish this season on a positive note. Seniors Hayley Knapp & Lindsay Schuring keep their tradition alive by medaling again in their races, showing all of us how consistency through the years is one of the keys to success. Great job ladies and good luck in the future, we will miss ya. Sophomore Steel Rasmussen showed his stuff again by earning a medal in the seeded All West Frosh/Soph race running against some of the most talented Frosh/Soph’s in the entire Western United States. Not bad for a first year runner. Another highlight was Sophomore Isaac Faux winning the seeded All West Frosh/Soph race earning not just a medal but First TEAM All West for the second year in a row. This was a great race for him and a reminder of how fun running can be.

Now there were several other runners that ran best times of the season and didn’t medal, and that is OK. It is not the medaling that matters; it is the journey and the progress you make in the journey. Let’s not lose sight of that. There were a few of you who had races that you were not pleased with, and that happens in running. However what you choose to do because of that is what seperates those who go on to greatness and those who do not. I know the people you are, and know you will bounce back (just as Rachel did) a wiser and better runner for the experience. Full race results can be found here: http://www.footlockercc.com/west/

We want to thank all of our chaperones who took the weekend off to come and join us on this amazing trip. Thank you for taking the time off of work and the time away from your family to help us. THANK YOU! Also a big time THANKS YOU to Coach Phil Olsen of Provo High School for organizing all of this for all of TEAM Utah, thank you.

Thank you for being so good and respectful for this trip. It really makes it a lot of fun for me when you all are so good. I really am very lucky to be along for the journey and I thank you for allowing me to do so.

Now that this season is over, the next thing up for all of you is to take at least 1 to 2 full weeks off of running. No running. Go be a teenager. Enjoy the rest for your body and your mind. Let your body rest. Don’t feel guilty for doing it, you have been running for 6 months solid. 1-2 weeks off is not going to hurt, if anything it is only going to make you better. If a week from now you feel like you need to run for your own sanity, than go on a few long runs (2 or 3 days of the week). Enjoy the time off. For those of you who just feel like you need to do something, the weight room is open after school. I highly recommend that you get into the weight room. Now is a great time to develop more strength that will help you in the track season. Track & field will HELP you for your next cross country season. I encourage all of you to do track and field.

Indoor Track will have its first official practice Wednesday January 4th at 3:00pm in the Athletic Commons at the Southwest corner of the school. We will be practicing for indoor every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 3:00pm. The weight room will be open every day after school, with outdoor track and field starting the last week of February.  As always if you have any questions please just ask. Thank you again for an amazing season and a great weekend. Remember that “running IS fun”

Thank you & happy running!
