Mt. TImp Invite Results & Week Four Notes

Golden Eagles –
“Everything can be taken from a man or a woman but one thing: The last of human freedoms to Choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s way.” – Victor Frankl –Man’s Search for Meaning

The above quote applied so much for us this week. When you think of things that could go wrong at a track meet a list of things like; sever injury, timing system failure, rain & snow, cold weather, bus issues, switching the order of events, and running at 10:00pm would all be at the top of any list. However despite all of these things our TEAM learned a valuable life lesson in choosing ones attitude to any given set of circumstances. Thank you to all of you who learned this lesson and made the choice with your attitude at this meet. 90% of our TEAM set Season BEST and personal BEST marks at this meet! We got four state qualifying marks at this meet! That is 3 more marks than we had at this point in the season last year. Having only competed in one day of this two day meet we were in first place on the boys and girls sides. We decided to pull our TEAM out of day two for safety reasons for our athletes. I apologies to all of you and to all of your parents for making that call at the time, sorry for the inconvenience I (Coach Wyatt) caused you. Thank you to all of you for your willingness to go to battle despite the conditions. (You have to love spring weather in Utah.) We are proud to be your coaches. Let us keep up the positive attitudes, hard work, and trust in each other and your coaches and good things will happen to our TEAM!

Full meet results can be found at www.runnercard.com Highlights of this meet included: Skylar Pocaro qualifying for state in the Javelin with a personal best throw of 162’ 11” and placing 2nd in this event. Zach Decker qualifying for state in the Shot Put with a school record put of 48’ 10” and placing 1st in this event. Hudson Sheranian joined his TEAMmate placing 6th in this event. Spencer Hanson qualifying for state in the 3200 with a time of 9:46 also placing 1st in this event, followed by Isaac Faux placing 2nd, Paxton Patey placing 4th ,and Jonah Hadlock all three of them setting personal bests in this event. Tiffany Gomm qualified in the 100 Hurdles placing 3rd in this event followed by Tarin Strosser who placed 5th in this event. Eddie Prothero placing 2nd in the 110 Hurdles, Jensen Williams, Tessa Weight, and Christine Heyn all placing in the top 10 in the 100 meters, Cameron Carson placing 4th in the 100 meters, Sarah Hash placing 8th in the 1600 and joined by Rachel Warnick in setting personal best times in this event. Jensen Williams and Rachel Bingham went 2nd and 3rd in the 400 meters followed by Sondra, Jalene, and Megan going 9th -11th. Kevin Muirbrook placing 7th in the 400 meters, Makanize Davis placed 6th in the Discus with a throw of 81’ 6”. There were several other highlights that we don’t have time to mention here. Great job TEAM.

Now this week we have two meets the first one is a region meet Tuesday March 29th at Springville High School vs Payson and Springville. For this meet you will be able to compete in up to four events of your choosing unless told otherwise by your event coach. The buses will leave MMHS at 2:40. This means for students at Maple Mountain will need to hustle from class to be on the buses on time. Freshmen will be excused from their Junior Highs at 2:15pm. The second thing to bring to your attention is we have a schedule change in our 2nd meet this week. We will be attending the Delta State Qualifying Invite this Saturday instead of the UVU Invite. The reason for this change is that the Delta Invite gives us more opportunities for our athletes to compete. We are allowed 5 athletes per event at Delta, and at UVU we are only allowed 3 in sprint & hurdle events and field events and only 4 in the distance events. UVU also limits athletes to only compete in three events whereas Delta allows them to compete in four. Delta is a better chance for our TEAM to have more athletes compete and thus more chances to qualify for state. We really feel this is a better opportunity for our TEAM, thank you for your support in this matter.  The buses for this meet will be leaving Saturday Morning at 6:15am! with the first events starting at 8:30am. The order of events will be posted soon.

Thanks & Happy Running, Jumping, & Throwing!

Cougar Relays, Payson Quad Results, & Mt. Timp Invite Info

Golden Eagles –
Wow what a busy week we had. We had a quad meet on Tuesday the 15th at Payson High against Uintah, Juab, and Payson. Full meet results for that meet can be found here:
Girls Results:

Boys Results:

This weekend our TEAM competed in the Cougar Relays at Kearns High. This meet was a fun opportunity for all who got a chance to compete in some events that we don’t get a chance to run all that often. This relay meet helped teach our TEAM about how this is a TEAM sport.  Congratulations to all of you for coming out of the Cougar Relays as the TEAM Champions. This was a full TEAM effort. We gained some invaluable experience running in the wind, the cold, and in a meet with 12 other schools. We know that this meet will help carry over into the state qualifying meets and the rest of the season. Some of the many Highlights of this meet were. We were able to come away with 10 “Golden Batons” (1st place finishes in the different relays) The Boys 4x800 relay of Spencer Hanson, Isaac Faux, Jonah Hadlock, and Paxton Patey ran an average of 2:06 for this amazing race setting a new meet record. The Frosh/Soph boys distance medley (1200, 400, 800, 1600) of Ethan Lowe, Paxton Patey, Shay LaFaver, and Micha Sanders. The Boys Shot Put TEAM of Zach Decker, Hudson Sheranian, Tanner Blanthorn, and Houser Duncan combined to put together a total distance of 163’ 3”.  The shuttle hurdle squad of Tiffany Gomm, Terrin Strosser, Sondra Novak, and Shantel Johnson led the way to victory while talking to each other going back and forth. The girls Frosh/Soph 4x1600 relay of Brigett Harris, Brynn Heckel, Kylie Thomson, and Bria Heckel battled against the guys to come out with this win. The girls 4x1600 of Hayley Knapp, Rachel Warnick, Sarah Hash, and Ashley Phelps also came out on top in this event. The Girls distance medley of Alenia Robertson, Ashley Phelps, Rachel Warnick, and Taylor Williamson joined the girls Frosh/Soph distance medley of Sierra Jensen, Gabbie Paice, Sam Jensen, and Brenda Quintana in pulling out the first place win. The girls throwers relay of Makinsie Davis, Holly Elmore, Nicole Habel, and Kori Carpenter helped out the overall score with a first place finish of their own. (The boys throwers relays got edged out by some kids who were much, much, smaller. If there was a relay for 200+lbs than we dominated that relay!) The final “Golden Baton” of this meet went to the girls 4x200 relay of Jensen Williams, Christine Heyn, Megan Elmont, Courtney Fryer this relay of one sophomore and three freshmen also set a new meet record in this event.  There are many, many, many more highlights that can’t all be mentioned. We as coaches are very proud of all of you who were willing to jump in and compete in anything we asked you to. Thank you. If we keep up the hard work and the willingness to help out the TEAM in any way possible than we know success will follow. Full results for this meet were not available at the time that I put this email together. As soon as the results are available we will pass them on to everyone. Thanks for your understanding in this.

MMHS Track & Field Notes for week 2

Golden Eagles –

This past week gave us the chance to have our TEAM get those first meet jitters out of the way. Sure enough no matter how jittery you were you all stepped up to the line and gave it your best shot. That is one of the things that really stood out to us as coaches. You all gave it your best. It was great to see ALL of you compete in multiple events. We were very pleased with the marks that we posted at this first meet. We as a TEAM are heading in the right direction. Now let us keep in mind that there are always things to improve on. Let us keep working on those things. You all now have a mark that you can use for the future. For those who have taken on the challenge of Track & Field for the first time this season, you take the time, distance, or height from this meet and trying to improve on that becomes your goal. You work toward that PR (Personal Record) always trying to improve yourself every day. As we all do this it will lift our TEAM. Thank you all for your performances at this meet & for your hard work in practice. Keep it up and great things will follow.

Keep up the hard work and it will pay off.

Final note for everyone our Track & Field Family suffered a tragic loss this week with the passing of Coach Harris’s father. Our thoughts and prayers are with Coach Harris and her family at this time. May you find Peace and be lifted up by the memories of your father. We all love you Coach!
